Chinese humanoid robot maker UBTech Robotics is offering up to 18 million dollars a year to recruit a single chief scientist, setting one of the highest known salary packages in the artificial intelligence industry. The eye-catching job listing signals that the global talent war for AI experts has now reached the fast-growing and increasingly competitive field of humanoid robots.

A Record-Setting Offer

The Shenzhen-based company confirmed that the annual salary for its new chief embodied intelligence scientist ranges from roughly two million to 18 million dollars, paid as a mix of cash, benefits, and equity. For context, UBTech competitor Unitree Robotics pays its CEO about 350 thousand dollars a year, making the upper end of this offer more than fifty times higher. The role calls for leading research in vision-language-action models, foundational robot models, and dexterous skill learning, which is the ability for a robot to handle objects the way humans do. UBTech said the hire will shape its technology roadmap across manufacturing, commercial services, and home companion robots.

A Global Talent Race

UBTech is not alone in its aggressive recruiting. Tesla posted more than eighty job openings for its Optimus humanoid robot program just days earlier, and firms like Meta and OpenAI have offered similar mega-packages to attract elite researchers. China’s government has listed embodied intelligence, the technology that lets AI systems interact with the physical world through robot bodies, as a national priority for two consecutive years. The competition reflects a broader industry belief that humanoid robots could become a multi-billion dollar market within the decade. UBTech is also hiring reinforcement learning engineers, hardware specialists, and Rust developers as it scales up.
